Book early and choose a simple theme

Reserve your cake smash several weeks in advance so there is time to plan colors, clothing, props, and the cake. A simple palette photographs more beautifully than a crowded theme and keeps your child—not the decorations—as the focus.

Practice with texture

Some babies love cake immediately; others are unsure about frosting. Before the session, let your child explore soft foods with their hands so the texture feels familiar. Do not introduce new ingredients on the session day.

Plan the cake carefully

Choose a small, soft cake that is easy for little hands to break apart. Avoid thick fondant, wooden toppers, hard candies, and decorations that could become choking hazards. Tell the baker about all allergies and sensitivities.

Bring familiar comforts

Pack snacks, water, a favorite toy, wipes, diapers, and at least one backup outfit. A familiar song or comfort item can help your child settle into the studio.

Expect your child to lead

Not every baby enthusiastically smashes the cake—and that is completely fine. Curious touches, cautious tastes, serious expressions, and messy little hands all tell the story of this stage.

After the cake

Bring a towel and comfortable clothing for the ride home. If your collection includes a splash or bath setup, confirm those details before the session.
